SPORTS NEWS...

VARSITY BOWLING: Our home meet last Saturday was very good for the boys, beating W-P 22-8. Ian MacMurray bowled 218 & 194, while Matt Krumm came in with 187 & 179. The girls didn't have the same luck lossing to Pinny 29-1. Kyra Goodman had the only win with a 147 & 134. Paige Lentz bowled a 139 game. Go Braves!

ANY GIRL INTERESTED IN PLAYING SOFTBALL THIS SPRING, needs to see Mr. Collins in room #3. We can always use more players.

WANT TO HELP THE VICTIMS OF THE HAITI EARTHQUAKE? Stop by the school store this week. All profits will be sent to help in the aftermath of the earthquake there!

Entries should be motorized. No fee or registration is required, however you are asked to notify the Chamber of Commerce of your intent to participate by Wednesdsay, Feb. 3rd. Decorate your entry with a general winter ice fishing theme or get into the spirit of the 1960's with tie-dyed headbands and peace signs. The Perchville slogan this year is, "Peace, Love & Perch!" Call the Chamber of Commerce at 362-8643 for more information.

KING OF THE ROAD DRIVING SCHOOL WILL BE HOLDING A SEGMENT ONE CLASS at Tawas Area High School starting on February 8th. Classes will run from 7:00 to 9:00 PM Monday thru Thursday. All information can be found online at www.kingoftheroaddrivingschool.com.

COUNSELING OFFICE NEWS...

THERE IS A KIWANIS/MICHIGAN STATE POLICE LAW ENFORCEMENT ACADEMY PROGRAM being offered to 10th, 11th and 12th grade students. The program is being held July 11-16, 2010. This is a week long program in law related careers. Through presentations and discussions, as well as a few basic training exercises, students get hands-on experience. The program is a sample of the State Trooper Recruit Training. For more information stop by the counseling office. Deadline date is March 31, 2010.

APPLICATIONS FOR THE HELEN LAIDLAW FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP ARE NOW AVAILABLE. Applications can be found on the Tawas website or in the counseling office. Deadline date is April 1, 2010.

SPORTS NEWS...

THE JV BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM DEFEATED WHITTEMORE FRIDAY 53-35. It was a very well played game with 8 players scoring on the night. They were led by Chase Blackmore with 12 points and Tyler Samuels with 11 points.

THE VARSITY BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM DEFEATED WHITTEMORE 68-52 FRIDAY. Leading scorers were Jesse Siwek, 18 points; and DJ Decker, Travis Simmons, and Cody Jordan all with 10 points.

SPORTS NEWS...

THE JV GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM LOST TO MIDLAND 44-28 LAST NIGHT. They scrapped and battled all night but came up short to the very good Midland team. Our leading scorer was Catherine Pinkerton with 8 points.

THE GIRLS VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM DROPPED TO 6-3 LAST NIGHT with a 54-42 loss to Midland. Rachel Adaline scored 22 points and Dana Kolnitys had 11 points to lead the Braves.

CURRENT EVENTS...

JV/VARSITY GIRLS BASKETBALL AT HOME TONIGHT vs. Midland at 6:00 PM.

SPORTS NEWS...

THE FRESHMAN GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM IMPROVED TO 3-1 LAST NIGHT with their victory against the Hale Eagles JV Team. Hale stayed with the young Braves for two quarters before the Freshmen Braves took control of the game and winning running away with the final score of 64-31. Scoring for the Braves, went as follows: Jenny Ross 22 pts., Amber Yates 11 pts., Ivy Schaff 8 pts., Tessa Schmidt 6 pts., Shelby Alda, Paige Binder & Serina Sciotta each with 4 pts., Abbie Cacorette 3 pts., and Maria Bacarella with 2 pts. The young Braves won't see more action until next week Thrusday against Ogemaw. Good Luck girls. Keep up your winning ways.

MR. COMPAU APOLOGIZES TO THE FRESHMAN BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM for having misplaced the stats from your great victory on Friday night against Pinconning improving your record to 4-0. Stats will be coming shortly.

VARSITY BOWLING RESULTS FROM LAST SATURDAY: This past Saturday was brutal on the Tawas teams. The Falcons beat the boys 28-2; our winning points came from Ian MacMurray 245, and Matt Krumm 211. Nathan Heine also bowled the game of his life, a 196. John Glenn girls beat the Braves 30-0. Amanda Campbell scored 155, and Paige Lentz a 144. The Bobcats posted a new conference record 1056 game. Go Braves!

SEVERAL STUDENTS AUDITIONED LAST WEEK FOR THE ELITE MSBOA DIST. 9 ALL STAR BAND last week, which will be held April 16th and 17th in Houghton Lake. This band is made up of the best students from all over our district and is very, very difficult to get into. This year was no exception. Please congratulate the following students for their acceptance into this year's District 9 All-Star Band. For the 7th-9th Grade Junior Band: Barbra Lounsbury, 8th Chair Clarinet; Cole VanderVeen, 3rd Chair Alto Saxophone; & Kalvin Lentz, 1st Chair Tenor Saxophone. For the 10th-12th Grade Senior Band: Gwin Simpson, 5th Chair Flute; Courtney McGee, 1st Chair Clarinet (out of 12 Clarinets!); & Shanna Britt, 3rd Chair Trombone. THE JV BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM DEFEATED PINCONNING FRIDAY NIGHT 45-37 with a great team defensive effort. Leading scorers on the night were Chase Blackmore with 14 and Nick Kolnitys with 11. Great job boys!

THERE WILL BE A SOFTBALL MEETING FOR ALL 9TH-12TH GRADE GIRLS this Thursday, Jan. 14th, in room #3 (Coach Collins's room), during lunch (both lunches). This is an important meeting. If you cannot attend, be sure to see Coach Collins for important information.

Decorate your entry with a general winter ice fishing theme or get into the spirit of the 1960's with tie-dyed headbands and peace signs. The Perchville slogan this year is, "Peace, Love & Perch!" THERE WILL BE A DANCE FOR 9TH - 12TH GRADE STUDENTS, sponsored by the senior class, this Friday night after the varsity basketball game until 11:00 PM. Cost for admission is $3.00. You must have a ride to pick you up at 11:00 PM!

NHS MEETING: Wednesday, Jan. 6th, during A-Lunch (11:15 AM) in Room 7. Please attend! Very important that all members be in attendance!

Announcements for Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010

SPORTS NEWS...

THE FRESHMAN GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM DEFEATED JOHN GLENN 52-4 LAST NIGHT. The girls jumped out to a 38 point lead before the Bobcats could score and rolled on to their victory. Scoring went a follows for the young Braves Ivy Schaff & Amber Yates with 10 pts., Abbie Cadorette 9 pts., Serena Seiotti & Tessa Schmidt with 8 pts., Jenny Ross 3pts., and Shelby Alda & Page Binder each with 2pts.. Marie Bacarella lead the team with her defense and the full court pressure. Great effort by the girls. Their record now is 2-1.

THE FRESHMAN BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM DEFEATED JOHN GLENN 55-49 LAST NIGHT, improving their record to 3-0. The game was back and forth all night until the end when the Braves pulled ahead to stay. The difference for the young Braves was making 15 freethrows of 25 attempts. Scoring for the Braves went as follows Blake Katterman 21 pts., Corey Chamberlein 9 pts., Cameron Osborn 8 pts., Chase Coffin 6 pts., Jacob Salway 5 pts., Nick Miller 3 pts., & Ryan Loeffler with 2 pts. Great job! The boys will play this Friday night against Pinconning before the JV game. See you there!

THE JV BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM DFEATED HALE LAST NIGHT 53-18 in a great team effort. Ten different players scored on the night. They were led by Tyler Samuels with 10 pts. and Nick Kolnitys with 9 pts.


8TH GRADE INFORMATION...

CONGRATULATIONS TO REBECCA PALMER & LINDSEY BEEBE for placing first in poetry and short story respectvely in the GFWC Women's Literary Guild Writing Contest. Honorable Mention went to Nik Robinson (poetry) and Kirsten Kaiser (short story) also. Nicely done aspiring writers!

SPORTS NEWS...

THE GIRLS VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM WON THE ALPENA HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT over Christmas break with wins over Gladstone (50-38) and Escanaba (37-29). Leading scorers in the first game were Dana Kolnitys with 16 and Audrey Thoryk and Rachel Adaline each with 11. In the second game, Rachel Adaline scored 14, Audrey Thoryk 8, and Courtney Clothier 6. Record is now 5-2.

THE VARSITY BOWLING REGULAR SEASON IS FINALLY UNDERWAY. This past Saturday they traveled to Skidway Lake and bowled against the Owls of Oscoda. The boys were victorious beating oscoda 18-12, while the girls weren't so fortunite lossing 13-17. Top boys were Matt Krumm 204, Witt Call Jr. 193, and Ian MacMurrray 186. Top girls, Paige Lentz 165, Danielle Ranger 121, and Kyra Goodman 117. Way to go Braves! Mark your calendars...Jan. 16th will be a home match and this next Saturday they will be going to Oscoda.
