THE GIRLS VARSITY SOCCER TEAM WERE DEFEATED BY CHEBOYGAN LAST NIGHT 1-3 in district semi-finals. Scoring for the team was Jenny Jacques. Tawas took twelve shots and put ten on goal while Cheboygan took eleven shots putting eight on goal and scoring three on Tawas goalkeeper Molly Stoll. The team ended the year with a record of 10-9 overall and 6-2 in the NEMC.

THE GIRLS VARSITY SOCCER TEAM DEFEATED ROSCOMMON 8-1 IN DISTRICT PLAY YESTERDAY. Scoring for the team was Jenny Jacques with three, Alyssa Gracik with two, Ali Jungquist with one, Gina Gerow with one and Audrey Thoryk with one. Jordan Zimmer, Courtney Clothier, Gina Gerow, Audrey Thoryk, Ali Jungquist and Alyssa Gracik each had assists. RoscommonÕs loan goal came from a penalty kick. Molly Stoll was in goal and had six saves.
THE VARSITY SOFTBALL TEAM SWEPT ALCONA 9-0 & 13-0 YESTERDAY. Nikki Stein picked up the win in game one allowing no runs on one hit while striking out eight and walking two Tiger hitters. Oliver took the loss for Alcona. Leading hitters for Tawas in game one were Lyndsey Look with two doubles and two RBI; Christie Cooper with two hits and one RBI; Nikki Stein with two hits and Rachel Adaline with a double and three RBI. In the nightcap it was Nikki Stein picking up her 24th win, throwing her fourth no-hitter of the season. Stein allowed no runs on no hits. She struck out ten and walked one Alcona batter. Leading hitters for Tawas in game two were Christie Cooper with two hits and three RBI; Katie LaHaye with three hits and Katie McKenzie with two hits and one RBI. Tawas closes out the season with a 24-4 record. They will play Pinconning at Pinconning on Saturday in district tournament play.
THE VARSITY BASEBALL TEAM SWEPT ALCONA LAST NIGHT 6-2 & 19-8. Justin Bielby got the win in the first game and DJ Decker got the win in the second game. Leading hitters were Kurtis Branham with a homerun, double and two singles; Justin Bielby with a triple, two doubles and two singles; River Peludat with three singles and one double; Seth Thomas with three singles; and Dylan Loga also with three singles. Joe Laidlaw scored six runs!

THE JV SOCCER TEAM CLOSED THEIR SEASON WITH A 0-0 TIE AGAINST ALPENA FRIDAY. Shelly Rouse and Amber Warren combined in goal for the shut out. The girls played well as it was a tough, physical game.

SENIORS - JOSEPH BARKMAN SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS ARE STILL AVAILABLE in the Counseling Office. This scholarship is offered to high school seniors and past graduates. Two reference letters are needed as well as reasons for applying and a statement about yourself. Deadline to the Counseling Office is October 31, 2009 (since many of you will have a very busy fall schedule it would be a good idea to hand this in before you graduate).

THE GIRLS TRACK TEAM FINISHED 2ND AT THE NEMC MEET WEDNESDAY. First Team All-Conference Honors went to: Dana Kolnitys 100M, Emily Short 1600M & 3200M, Richelle Payea 800M, 4x100M Relay (Kolnitys, Shelby Benoit, Payea, & Chelsea Wojahn). Second Team All-Conference: Wojahn 100M, Benoit 400M, Kolnitys 200M, Kaitie Challenger Pole Vault, Sara Blust High Jump, 4x800 Relay (Chelsea Smith, Alaina Nunn, Payea, & Short), 4x400 Relay (Charity Cardinal, Abbie Hutchison, Kolnitys, & Benoit). Honorable Mention: Sammi Duvall 100 hurdles, Wojahn 200M, Julie Enzenberger High Jump, Payea Long Jump, 4x200 Relay Amy Johnson, Enzenberger, Duvall, Cardinal).
THE VARSITY GOLF TEAM ADVANCED TO REGIONAL COMPETITION YESTERDAY by virtue of a 2nd place finish at the district qualiftying tournament in Farwell. Tawas finished one shot behind tournament winner Saginaw Nouvel. Matt Flory and Casey Wheatley medaled for Tawas.

THE GIRLS JV SOCCER TEAM DEFEATED CLARE YESTERDAY 2-0. Scoring for Tawas were Brooke Serra and Shelly Rouse. Credited with assists were Taylor Brannan, Jordin Montgomery and Alyssa Look. Shelly Rouse had 4 saves in goal and Amber Warren had 5 saves in goal as both keepers combined for the shut out victory. Taylor Inman and Lauren Moran played strong at midfield.

Molly Stoll was in goal for the Lady Braves and had 4 saves and gave up one goal on a Clare penalty kick.
THE JV SOFTBALL TEAM HAD FOUR WINS OVER THE PAST TWO DAYS! They defeated Alcona Tuesday with a game one score of 14-10 and game two 22-2. Winning pitchers were Alexis Grover and Alyssa Gage. Leading hitters were Sammy Smith with 1 double and 4 singles, Taylor Story with 2 doubles and 2 singles, and Ariana Conklin with 1 double and 3 singles. Yesterday the girls defeated John Glenn in the last inning game one 14-5. Winning pitcher was Alyssa Gage with 9 strike outs and Alexis Grover with 5 put outs and 2 assists. Leading hitters were Smith with 4 singles and 1 RBI, Conklin with 1 triple, Jessica Engle with 1 single and 2 RBIs. In game two it was 25-8 with winning pitcher Grover having 9 strike outs and Story with 6 put outs. Hitting results were Grover with 1 triple, 2 singles, and 2 RBIs, Engle with 1 double, 1 single and 1 RBIs, Gage with 4 singles, McDaniels and Marisa Wetherwax with 2 doubles, and 2 singles, Conklin with 1 single and 5 RBIs, Story with 2 singles, and 1 RBI and Smith with1 single and 2 RBIs. Nikki struck out 22 batters on the night. THE GIRLS JV SOCCER TEAM LOST TO SUTTON'S BAY YESTERDAY 0-3. Tawas put forth a great team effort. Shelly Rouse had 12 saves in goal. Karli Stevelinck put forth a great effort on defense.
THE GIRLS VARSITY SOCCER TEAM LOST TO SUTTON'S BAY YESTERDAY 0-2. Molly Stoll was in goal for the Lady Braves and had 10 saves.
THE VARSITY SOFTBALL TEAM SPLIT A DOUBLE-HEADER WITH OGEMAW YESTERDAY, thus ending their quest for a share of the NEMC championship. Ogemaw took the first game 2 -1 and the Braves came back to take the nightcap 11-6. Nikki Stein took the loss for the Braves allowing two runs on three hits. She struck out eight and walked three. Christie Cooper had a double and Lyndsey & Lauren Look had one hit each for Tawas. Nikki Stein won game two giving up six runs (four earned) on eight hits. She struck out three and walked one. Katie LaHaye had a grand slam home run & four RBI's; Lyndsey Look had four hits; Lauren Look had two hits and two RBI; and Courtney Bissonette had two hits and one RBI. With the split, Tawas goes to 20-4 on the season and 6-2 in the NEMC.

Leading hitters were River Pedulat with a grand slam homerun, Matt Nunn with a solo homerun, DJ Decker with a solo homerun and Kurtis Branham with a key bases-loaded hit. Justin Bielby was the winning pitcher striking out 8 batters. The Braves played great defense in their 2nd game!

THE GIRLS VARSITY SOCCER TEAM LOST A CLOST MATCH TO BULLOCK CREEK FRIDAY. The final score was Midland 2 Tawas 1. Tawas had numerous opportunities to score, out shooting Creek 20 to 7. Tawas lone score came from Jenny Jacques with 10 minutes remaining in the game. Tawas seemed to gain momentum at that point but the Midland defense held on for the win. Tawas travels Monday to Suttons Bay game time 6pm.
THE GIRLS TRACK TEAM FINISHED 8TH AT THE REGIONAL TRACK MEET SATURDAY. Emily Short qualified for the state final meet with her 2nd place finish in the 3200M run. She ran a personal best time of 12:13.36. Other medal winners for the team were:Dana Kolnitys 100M (6th) & 200M (7th), Chelsea Wojahn 100M (7th) & 200M (6th), Shelby Benoit 400M (5th), Richelle Payea 800M (7th), Kaitie Challenger Pole Vault (4th), 4x100 Relay (3rd) & 4x400 Relay (6th) (Kolnitys, Wojahn, Benoit, Payea - both relays).
THE BOYS TRACK TEAM FINISHED 9TH AT THE REGIONAL TRACK MEET ON SATURDAY. Top finishers this Saturday were: 4 x 400 Relay Team of Revord, Fuller, Siwek, Janis tied for 3rd place with a 45.63 which was only a few tenths of a second off from qualifying for the State Finals, Jeff Janis took 4th in the long jump, won the 400m with a 51.89 and qualified for the State Finals, the 4 x 1600 Relay Team Baker, Siewk, Wilk, Janis also metaled with a seventh place finish with a 3:48.61. Great job this year and the boys will wrap up their seasons this Wednesday as we host the NEMC League Meet.
THE VARSITY SOFTBALL TEAM WON THEIR 12 TEAM INVITATIONAL SATURDAY with a perfect 4-0 record on the day. Nikki Stein won all four games, striking out 23 on the day. Tawas defeated Oscoda 13-0 in three innings, Gaylord 3-0, Standish 5-3 and New Boston Huron 5-0 in the Championship game. Katie LaHaye, Rachel Adaline and Courtney Bissonette each homered for Tawas on the day. Leading hitters for the Braves were LaHaye with six hits and four RBI; Lauren Look with six hits and three RBI; Katie McKenzie with five hits and four RBI and Abby Gentges with five hits and one RBI. Tawas improves to 19-3 on the season.

THE GIRLS JV SOCCER TEAM DEFEATED STANDISH YESTERDAY 4-0. Scoring for Tawas were Kim Salwey, Malia Colby, Shelly Rouse and Taylor Inman. Credited with assists were Taylor Brannan and Jordin Montgomery. Shelly Rouse and Amber Warren split time in goal for a combined shut out. Shelly Rouse had 4 saves and Amber Warren had 5 saves. The entire team put forth a great effort.

Defensive standouts were Carly Meshew, Lydia Kaufman, Courtney Clothier and Jordan Zimmer.

Hitting results were Sammy Smith with 1 triple, double, single, and RBI; Alex White with 2 triples, 2 doubles, and 3 RBIs; Caroline Weber with 1 triple; 3 doubles and 3 RBIs; Jessica Engle with 2 doubles, 1 single and 4 RBIs; Taylor Story with 2 singles, 1 RBI;. In game two it was Tawas 24 & Grayling 7, winning pitcher was Alexis Grover with 6 strike outs and Smith with 4 put outs. If you are not involved in a spring sport and would like to get a head start on your volleyball season come join us this Monday from 3:00 - 4:00 PM in the gym. We will meet Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 3:00 - 4:00 PM until May 22nd.

Leading hitters for Tawas in game one were Lyndsey Look with two singles, a double and three RBI and Lauren Look with a single, double and one RBI. Leading hitters for Tawas in game two were Rachel Adaline with a single, triple and three RBI; Lyndsey Look and Katie McKenzie with two hits and one RBI; and Christie Cooper and Courtney Bissonette had two hits each. With the wins Tawas improves to 13-3 on the season and 5-1 in the NEMC.

THE GIRLS VARSITY SOCCER TEAM DEFEATED PINCONNING LAST NIGHT 8-0. Scoring for the team were Alyssa Gracic with three goals. Jordan Zimmer had 2 goals one by a penalty kick and her final tally ending the game with 16 minutes left in the second half due to the mercy rule. Ali Jungquist, Gena Gerow and Jenny Jacques also scored for Tawas. Assists were credited to Jungquist and Andrea Fisher. Goalkeeper Molly Stoll made 3 saves and the lady braves totaled 30 shots 22 on goal.
THE VARISTY GIRLS SOFTBALL TEAM SWEPT A DOUBLE-HEADER AGAINST ROSCOMMON MONDAY. Nikki Stein tossed a pair of no-hitters as the by the scores of 9-0 and 11-0. In the opener Stein gave up no runs on no hits while striking out eighteen and walking one Bucks hitter. Leading hitters for Tawas were Lyndsey Look with three hits; Katie McKenzie with two hits and two RBI; Lauren Look and Christie Cooper with a double and one RBI each. In game two Stein gave up no runs on no hits while striking out seventeen and walking none. Leading hitters for Tawas were Lauren Look with two doubles, a single and one RBI; Katie LaHaye with two doubles and two RBI; Lyndsey Look with two hits and one RBI; and Katie McKenzie with two hits. With the wins, Tawas improves to 11-3 on the season.
THE VARSITY BASEBALL TEAM ALSO SWEPT A DOUBLE-HEADER MONDAY AGAINST ROSCOMMON by scores of 6-3 & 10-7. The winning pitchers were Seth Thomas and River Peludat. Leading hitters were Matt Nunn, River Peludat, Nick Hulea & Justin Bielby. The Braves play a double-header today vs. Standish at East Tawas (Bolen Park).
THE SOPHOMORES ON THE GIRLS TRACK TEAM FINISHED 3RD AT OGEMAW MONDAY at the 9th & 10th grade meet. The team consisted of only 7 girls. Four of the girls finished 1st or 2nd in all 4 of their events; Richelle Payea, Emily Short, Dana Kolnitys, & Chelsea Wojahn. Selena Gaudette & Abby Laidlaw also medaled in an event.
THE BOYS TRACK TEAM HAD A JV MEET AT OGEMAW ON MONDAY and beat out Whittemore to get 3rd place. Medalers were Talal Abdullah 1st place 400m 56.10, 2nd place 200m 25.32, 2nd place 1600m 5:03; and Ben Enzenberger 4th place in the High Jump 5-02.

THE VARSITY GOLF TEAM SET A NEW 18-HOLE SCHOOL RECORD SATURDAY at the Gladwin Invitational, posting a 315; 5 shots better than the previous record of 320 they set earlier this year at Indian River! Matt Flory and Casey Wheatley shot 76's, while Bruce Myles shot 81 and Alex Phillips 82. Tawas placed 3rd at the tournament, behind two Division 1 schools.

THE GIRLS TRACK TEAM BEAT STANDISH & PINCONNING AT HOME YESTERDAY. Athletes taking 1sts against both teams were: Sara Blust High Jump, Dana Kolnitys 100M & 200M, Sammi Duvall 100 hurdles, Shelby Benoit 400MGirls, Emily Short 1600M, Richelle Payea 800M, 4x100M relay (Kolnitys, Payea, Benoit, Chelsea Wojahn), 4x800 relay (Short, Chelsea Smith, Alaina Nunn, Olivia Bolen).
THE GIRLS VARSITY SOCCER TEAM DEFEATED OGEMAW LAST NIGHT with a score of 2-1. Scoring for the team were Jordan Zimmer on a penalty kick and Alyssa Gracik with an assist from Jordan Zimmer. Goalkeeper Molly Stoll had 3 saves and gave up 1 goal.
THE JV BASEBALL TEAM LOST A DOUBLE HEADER TO PINCONNING YESTERDAY. Scores were 10-5 and 10-3. Top hitters for Tawas JV were Jared Bielby and Colin Verlac who had a 2 run-homerun.
FOOTBALL PLAYERS PARTICIPATING IN THE LIFTATHON THIS SATURDAY need to arrive no later than 9:45 AM.

THE VARSITY GOLF TEAM SET ITS 2ND SCHOOL RECORD OF THE SEASON YESTERDAY winning the NEMC jamboree at Red Hawk Golf Course. The team shot 149 in setting the new 9-hole record, and Casey Wheatley's low round of 34 tied the school record for lowest individual 9-hole score. Matt Flory shot 37, and Alex Phillips and Anthony Knafla 39 for the record-setting score. The team won all 5 conference jamborees this season.
THE JV GOLF TEAM SWEPT ALL FIVE JAMBOREE TEAMS YESTERDAY finishing its conference season. Drew Hatcher led the way with a 40, Nick Revord a 42 and Preston Myles a 44.
THE VARSITY SOFTBALL TEAM SPLIT A DOUBLE HEADER WITH PINCONNING LAST NIGHT. Tawas won the opening game 7-5 in nine innings and Pinconning came back to take the second game by the score of 3-2. Nikki Stein picked up the win in game one allowing five runs (one earned) on eleven hits. She struck out 12 and walked one. Leading hitters for Tawas in game one were Katie LaHaye had a home run, single and two RBI; Amber Hunt had three hits and two RBI; Katie McKenzie had two hits and Lauren Look had a double and two RBI. Stein took the loss for Tawas in game two allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits. She struck out seven and walked three. Leading hitters for Tawas in game two were LaHaye with a home run and one RBI; Abby Gentges and Lyndsey each had a double; Lauren Look and Rachel Adaline had one hit each. With the wins, Tawas improves to 9-3 on the season and 3-1 in the North East Michigan Conference and are tied with Pinconning for the conference lead.

Medal winners were: Emily Short 1600M & 3200M, Shelby Benoit 400M, Richelle Payea 800M & Long Jump, Dana Kolnitys 200M & 100M, Chelsea Wojahn 200M, Kaitie Challenger Pole Vault, 1600 Relay (Kolnitys, Payea, Benoit, Wojahn), 3200 Relay (Short, Alaina Nunn, Chelsea Smith, Olivia Bolen), 400 Relay (Benoit, Payea, Wojahn, Kolnitys). The team will compete at home on Wednesday at 4:00 PM vs. Standish & Pinconning.
