CONGRATULATIONS TO JEFF JANIS & BILL SCHMIDT as they attended the 2009 State Powerlifting Championship this past weekend at Whitmore Lake High School. Jeff performed the top dead lift of his weight class with a personal record of 535 and finished 7th for the 181 weight class. His other lifts were bench 235 and squat of 405 for a total of 1175. Bill had high hopes for the state championships as he dominated his weight class at the regional qualifier taking first place. He started out strong with a squat of 350, and bench press of 260. He was tied going into his last dead lift attempt and instead of just trying to win the meet he tried to add ten pounds to break the state record of 500. Even though he was successful lifting the record breaking weight off the floor, his attempt was ruled a fault. He ended up tying for 1st place in the 155 weight class. The State Powerlifting rules settles ties by favoring the lighter lifter and the kid that tied Bill was 2/10 of a pound lighter so Bill finished 2nd in the state with a total of 1,090. Outstanding guys!
