8TH GRADE INFORMATION...

ELK'S NATIONAL HOOP SHOOT FREE THROW CONTEST The qualifying round for all 8 - 13 year olds will be on Saturday, Nov. 7th, from 9:00 - 11:00 AM in the Tawas Area High School gym. For more information, pick up a flyer from the athletic office.

9TH - 12TH GRADE INFORMATION...

SPANISH CLUB T-SHIRTS ARE IN! If you've ordered/paid for them, pop by room #29 between classes and get yours.

REMINDER - PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES ARE WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY. Wednesday from 5:30 to 8:30 PM and Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. All parents are encouraged to attend!

SPANISH CLUB MEMBERS WHO ARE ATTENDING SVSU'S COMPETITION, you need to hand in your permission slip and fees by Thursday, October 29th.

ANY 9TH OR 10TH GRADER INTERESTED IN CONTINUING THE GO FO IT! PROGRAM, can meet with Ms. Sass in room #2 every Wednesday during his/her lunch hour. We meet weekly with the exception of October 28th. See you on November 4th.

SEGMENT II DRIVER'S ED. CLASS will be available at Tawas Area High School on November 17, 18 and 19. Cost is $25.00 and is available for all students who have held a level one drivers license for 3 months and have 30 hours of practice driving completed. IMPORTANT NEWS FOR EVERYONE (8-12)...

ITS TIME TO VOTE FOR MRS. MCCARLEY FOR TEACHER OF THE YEAR. To vote, google Fox 66, select "Golden Apple Award," check Mrs. McCarley's name, and submit your vote. The voting deadline is October 29th. Tell your friends, parents and anyone else you can think of to vote for Mrs. McCarley.

IF YOU NEED TO LEAVE SCHOOL EARLY (FOR APPOINTMENTS, ETC.) PLEASE BRING A NOTE FROM YOUR PARENTS. Keep the note with you to show your teacher so you can get out of class. Turn the note in at Mr. Grusecki's office when you sign out. THIS IS THE BEST WAY TO GET YOU OUT AND WHERE YOU NEED TO BE GOING ON TIME! Please be sure to check out of class and be ready to go on time! It is your responsibility to watch the clock!

BUS PASS REQUESTS MUST BE SUBMITTED IN WRITING BEFORE SCHOOL Bus pass requests must be written (by a parent), turned in the Mr. Kiblinger's office BEFORE SCHOOL, and must have the address and name of the bus written on them. Passes requested before school can be picked up DURING LUNCH & AFTER SCHOOL ONLY.
WORK PERMITS If you are under 18 and have a job, you must have a WORK PERMIT! They can be found in the rack outside front office.

COUNSELING OFFICE NEWS...

THE IOSCO RESA CAREER & TECH. ED. CENTER ANNUAL OPEN HOUSE will be held on Thursday, October 29th, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. The purpose of the Open House is for current or prospective students/parents to visit program labs, meet administrator(s), instructors, and support staff. It is also a time for the general public to learn about the Tech Center and all it offers our students. Refreshments compliments of the IoscoRESA Food & Hospitality students. Come out and visit!

THE DEADLINE FOR THE DECEMBER 12TH ACT TEST IS FRIDAY, NOV 6th. Don't delay, send your application in!

STUDENTS HAVE UNTIL FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30TH to get their incomplete grades in.

SENIOR STUDENT ATHLETES (male & female) meeting the requirements of a 3.5 GPA and having earned at least one varsity letter in an MHSAA sport can submit an application for the MHSAA Scholar-Athlete. Stop in the counseling office for information. Applications must be returned to the counseling office by Monday, November 23, 2009.

REMINDER - SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINES ARE COMING UP! The Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarship application deadline is coming up along with The Gold Key Scholarship for special needs. Applications are due November 2, 2009 (available online or in the counseling office).

THE US NAVY HAS A SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU! The Navy ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps.) offers an $180,000.00 scholarship that will cover four years of higher education. For more information stop by the Counseling Office or visit http://www.navy.com/careers/nrotc/.

SPORTS NEWS...

GIRLS BASKETBALL WILL HAVE AN ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING after school on Thursday in Coach Stoll's room #10. The meeting is for all grades (9-12) who are interested in playing basketball. If you have any questions, see Coach Stoll or Coach Gorman.

THE FRESHMAN VOLLEYBALL TEAM DEFEAETED PINCONNING LAST NIGHT, closing out their season scores of 26-24 & 25-22. The team finished with a 9-1 record. Congratulations and thanks for a great season!!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE VARSITY VOLLEYBALL TEAM ON DEFEATED PINCONNING LAST NIGHT in a dramatic come-from-behind victory! This gave the Braves sole possession of the NEMC top spot--The teams' first league title in 29 years! The Braves came out strong in the first game but faltered in the second and third. They came back strong in the fourth game which they won 25-14. The momentum carried on as they closed out the match 15-10 in the fifth. The team opens district play next Wednesday as they take on Ogemaw. Congratulations ladies on your NEMC title and your season record of 9-1.

THE VARSITY SOCCER TEAM DEFEATED CHARLEVOIX LAST NIGHT IN REGIONAL SEMI-FINALS in dramatic fashion with a score of 2-1. Cody Jordan scored both goals for the team and Nick Hulea was in goal and credited with 11 saves. The team is now 19-2-1 and advances to Regional Finals on Friday in Elk Rapids at 6:00 PM versus Newaygo. Come on over and support the team!
