TODAY'S NEWS...

SPANISH CLUB RELAY FOR LIFE MEETING: Thursday, May 21st, during lunch in Mrs. Grusecki's room.

REMINDER TO THE JUNIOR CLASS BOARD MEMBERS: You have a meeting Friday at lunch in Mrs. Nunn's room.

ATTENTION ALL 2009-2010 COLOR GUARD TEAM MEMBERS: There will be a team meeting on Monday, May 18th, at 2:45 PM in the band room! Everyone must attend! Any questions please contact Coach Lossing at 989-820-7900.

SEGMENT I DRIVER'S EDUCATION CLASS starts Monday, June 1st. Sign up in the Counseling Office ASAP.


OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION...

DETENTION Mondays, Tuesdays & Wednesdays after school in Mrs. Whetstone's room (#36) from 2:45 - 3:45 PM. Wednesday morning detention will be in Mrs. Kosto's art room from 7:15 - 7:55 AM.

IF YOU NEED TO LEAVE SCHOOL EARLY... (for appointments, etc.) please bring a note from your parents. Keep the note with you to show your teacher so you can get out of class. Turn the note in to the office when you sign out. THIS IS THE BEST WAY TO GET YOU OUT AND WHERE YOU NEED TO GO ON TIME. Please be sure to check out of class and be ready to go on time! It is your responsibility to watch the clock!

BUS PASS REQUESTS MUST BE SUBMITTED IN WRITING BEFORE SCHOOL Bus pass requests must be written (by a parent), turned in to the office BEFORE SCHOOL and must have the address and name of the bus. Passes requested before school can be picked up DURING LUNCH & AFTER SCHOOL ONLY.

WORK PERMITS If you are under 18 and have a job, you must have a WORK PERMIT! They are in the rack outside the high school office.


COUNSELING OFFICE NEWS...

A REPRESENTATIVE FRO KIRTLAND COMMUNITY COLLEGE WILL BE HERE MONDAY, May 18th at 9:00 AM. If you are a senior and plan on attending Kirtland in the fall and have questions sign up in the Counseling Office. If you are a junior and interested in what programs Kirtland has to offer or are curious about the college sign up in the Counseling Office.

STUDENTS INTERESTED IN TAKING ALPENA COMMUNITY COLLEGE CLASSES IN THE FALL can pick up the dual enrollment packets in the counseling office.

SENIORS, DID YOU TAKE DUAL ENROLLMENT CLASSES THIS PAST YEAR? You need to contact the registrars office and have your transcript forwarded to the college or university you will be attending in the fall.

SENIORS, THE COUNSELING OFFICE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHERE YOU'RE HEADED THIS FALL. A four year university? A two year community college? A trade school? Armed Forces? A final transcript is required by your college or university so stop by and let us know where to send it.

SENIORS - JOSEPH BARKMAN SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION ARE STILL AVAILABLE in the Counseling Office. This scholarship is offered to high school seniors and past graduates. Two reference letters are needed as well as reasons for applying and a statement about yourself. Deadline to the Counseling Office is October 31, 2009 (since many of you will have a very busy fall schedule it would be a good idea to hand this in before you graduate).


SPORTS NEWS...

ALL GIRLS WHO WILL BE TRYING OUT OF VOLLEYBALL IN THE FALL: Its time to start working on jump training, agility, and speed work. If you are not involved in a spring sport and would like to get a head start on your volleyball season come join us this Monday from 3:00 - 4:00 PM in the gym. We will meet Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 3:00 - 4:00 PM until May 22nd.

THE GIRLS JV SOCCER TEAM DEFEATED STANDISH YESTERDAY 4-0. Scoring for Tawas were Kim Salwey, Malia Colby, Shelly Rouse and Taylor Inman. Credited with assists were Taylor Brannan and Jordin Montgomery. Shelly Rouse and Amber Warren split time in goal for a combined shut out. Shelly Rouse had 4 saves and Amber Warren had 5 saves. The entire team put forth a great effort.

THE GILRS VARSITY SOCCER TEAM DEFEATED STANDISH YESTERDAY 3-0. Scoring for the team was Audrey Thoryk assist Alyssa Gracik, Alyssa Gracik assisted by Jordan Zimmer and Lydia Kaufman from a direct kick. Jenny Jacques and Ali Jungquist combined in goal to earn the shut out.Tawas had 21 shots 14 on goal.Tawas goaltenders turned away 6 Standish shots on goal. Defensive standouts were Carly Meshew, Lydia Kaufman, Courtney Clothier and Jordan Zimmer.

THE JV SOFTBALL TEAM DEFEATED GRAYING IN BOTH GAMES YESTERDAY. In game one it was Tawas 15 & Grayling 0, winning pitcher was Alysaa Gage with 6 strike outs. Hitting results were Sammy Smith with 1 triple, double, single, and RBI; Alex White with 2 triples, 2 doubles, and 3 RBIs; Caroline Weber with 1 triple; 3 doubles and 3 RBIs; Jessica Engle with 2 doubles, 1 single and 4 RBIs; Taylor Story with 2 singles, 1 RBI;. In game two it was Tawas 24 & Grayling 7, winning pitcher was Alexis Grover with 6 strike outs and Smith with 4 put outs. Hitters were Caroline Weber with an awesome GRAND SLAM, 2 doubles, 3 singles, and 7 RBIs, Smith with 1 double, 3 singles, and 1 RBI, Grover with 3 singles and 1 RBI, Conklin with 2 singles, and 4 RBIs, Marisa Wetherwax and White with 1 double, single and RBI, Story with 1 single, a great sacrifice bunt, and 1 RBI, and Engle and McDaniels with 1 single and RBI each.

THE VARSITY SOFTBALL TEAM WON BOTH GAMES YESTERDAY with Nikki Stein striking out 13 on the night. Leading hitters on the night were Lauren Look with two singles, four doubles and two RBI; Katie McKenzie with three singles, a double and 7 RBI; Katie LaHaye with four hits and three RBI; Abby Gentges with four hits and two RBI; Lyndsey Look and Courtney Bissonette with four hits and one RBI each.
