Announcements for Monday, May 4, 2009

TODAY'S NEWS…

DETENTION HOURS MUST BE SERVED BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR. Detentions can be served Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays at 2:45 PM in Room 36, or Wednesday mornings in the art room at 7:15 AM. Hours cannot be carried over to next year. Students not staying for their assigned hours will be given ISS and may need to come in the day after school gets out for the summer to complete their hours.

STUDENT COUNCIL MEETING Wednesday, May 6th, in room 26 at lunch. We will be voting on our officers for next year.

IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY A SOPHOMORE and you wish to jump start the prom for next year, there will be a meeting in Mrs. Grusecki's room this Wednesday at lunch. PLEASE arrive ASAP, and, if possible, bring some prom theme suggestions!

THE LIBRARY WILL BE CLOSED Hours 1-4 Thursday, May 7th.

SPANISH CLUB MEETINGS: Juniors & Seniors on Thursday, May 7th during lunch; and Sophomores on Friday, May 8th during lunch.

SENIORS - IF YOU HAD PICTURES TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE SENIOR PICTURE SHOW, but missed your last opportunity...you may still turn them in until Wednesday, May 6th. Bring them to room 24 and put them in the box.

SEGMENT I DRIVER'S EDUCATION CLASS starts Monday, June 1st. Sign up in the Counseling Office ASAP.

PRIDE APPLICATIONS may be picked up in the rack outside the office or from any PRIDE member. After completion, they can be turned into Mrs. Grusecki, the office, mailed to the address on the application, or given to any PRIDE member; the due date is Friday, May 8th.


OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION...

DETENTION Mondays, Tuesdays & Wednesdays after school in Mrs. Whetstone's room (#36) from 2:45 - 3:45 PM. Wednesday morning detention will be in Mrs. Kosto's art room from 7:15 - 7:55 AM.

IF YOU NEED TO LEAVE SCHOOL EARLY... (for appointments, etc.) please bring a note from your parents. Keep the note with you to show your teacher so you can get out of class. Turn the note in to the office when you sign out. THIS IS THE BEST WAY TO GET YOU OUT AND WHERE YOU NEED TO GO ON TIME. Please be sure to check out of class and be ready to go on time! It is your responsibility to watch the clock!

BUS PASS REQUESTS MUST BE SUBMITTED IN WRITING BEFORE SCHOOL Bus pass requests must be written (by a parent), turned in to the office BEFORE SCHOOL and must have the address and name of the bus. Passes requested before school can be picked up DURING LUNCH & AFTER SCHOOL ONLY.

WORK PERMITS If you are under 18 and have a job, you must have a WORK PERMIT! They are in the rack outside the high school office.


COUNSELING OFFICE NEWS...

STUDENTS HAVE UNTIL FRIDAY, MAY 8th to take care of their incomplete grades.

A REPRESENTATIVE FROM LAKE SUPERIOR STATE UNIVERSITY WILL BE HERE on Tuesday, May 5th, at 8:00 AM. If you plan on attending the university in the fall and have questions regarding programs, scholarships, financial aid, housing etc...sign up in the counseling office. If you are a junior and are interested in the university stop in and sign up.

JUNIORS & SENIORS - THERE IS ONE MORE TEST DATE FOR THE ACT TEST this school year. Tawas High School will host it on Saturday, June 13th. Whether you are registering online or by mail the registration deadline is Friday, May 8th.

SPORTS NEWS...

THE GIRLS TRACK TEAM TOOK 2ND PLACE AT WHITTEMORE FRIDAY. Medal winners were: Emily Short 1600M & 3200M, Shelby Benoit 400M, Richelle Payea 800M & Long Jump, Dana Kolnitys 200M & 100M, Chelsea Wojahn 200M, Kaitie Challenger Pole Vault, 1600 Relay (Kolnitys, Payea, Benoit, Wojahn), 3200 Relay (Short, Alaina Nunn, Chelsea Smith, Olivia Bolen), 400 Relay (Benoit, Payea, Wojahn, Kolnitys). The team will compete at home on Wednesday at 4:00 PM vs. Standish & Pinconning.

THE BOYS TRACK TEAM WAS EDGED OUT OF 2ND PLACE BY 7 POINTS AT WHITTEMORE FRIDAY. Those metaling in frist place were:Jeff Janis Long Jump, 100m, & 200m, Ruben Baker 400m, & 1600m relay team of Baker, Trapp, Siwek, Janis Second place metalers were Kyle Knapp Discus. Third place metalers: Jesse Siwek Long Jump, & the 4x100m team of Revord, Siwek, Fuller, Baker. PR's were: Reuben Baker 100m 12.0, 400m 54.3, Eric Wilk 110h 17.8, John Carroll 110h 20.6, Talal Abdullah 1600m 5:09.3, Anthony Kushner 1600m 5:57.2, Matt Horn 1600m 12.3 & the 3200m 13:37, Nick Kolnitys 300h 49,4, Josh Hunke 800m 2:19, 1600m relay Team 3:40.9

ANY BOYS INTERESTED IN PLAYING VARSITY BASKETBALL NEXT YEAR, there will be a short meeting on Wednesday after school in room 5. The meeting will start at 2:45 PM and will be over by 3:00 PM. Please make arrangements to be at this meeting.
