TODAY'S NEWS…

THE HIGH SCHOOL CONCERNT BAND PARTICPATED IN THE MSBOA STATE FESTIVAL at Manistee High School this past Saturday. They performed March of the Belgian Paratroopers, Chesford Portrait, and And the Fire Raged! along with two sightreading pieces. They received a 3 for their concert pieces and a 2 in the sightreading pieces for an overall rating of 3. All of the judges stated that our and "performed with passion, enthusiasm, and spirit and that we have some great potential as band." One of the other compliments the judges gave us was that it was nice to see so many parents, family, and friends drive so far to support our band program! We thank all of you for your continued support and encouragement and if you see any of these fine musicians, congratulate them on all their hard work and dedication!

MANY TAWAS ART STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN AN ART COMPETITION of Area High School Art over the weekend sponsored by the The Tawas Bay Art Council. Over-All Show Second Place went to Caiti Bayn. 1st - 3rd place in Photography also went to Caiti Bayn. Danyle Nothhagel won 1st place in Graphics, 2nd places went to Darcy Bard in Pottery and Serena White in Graphics. 3rd place went to Terra Varney in Graphics. Honorable Mentions were won by Ashley Smith for Pastel, Jessica Saaranen for Color Pencil, Ashlen Story for Pottery, Ashley Groff for Watercolor, Shawna Engle for Photography and Katie Diener for Graphics. Congratulations and thank you to all who participated. Tawas was personally congratulated by the Judge on our students' high level of skill and ability. Don't miss the show, it is on display until May 4th at the Community Building.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE SPANISH CLUB SENIORS for being the best donkey basketball players Friday night! Good job to all who attended and participated; we were able to reach our current goal of $500 for the Relay For Life team!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE FOLLOWING PROM COURT MEMBERS: Senior girls - Alyssa Gracik, Lydia Kauffman, Colleen Kehoe, Maia Martinez and Jordan Zimmer. Senior boys - Justin Bielby, Guy Cotter, Dan Gingerich, Jeff Janis, and Bill Schmidt. Junior girls - Callie Anderson, Rachel Faught and Andrea Fisher. Junior boys - Dylan Loga, Gary Sisk and Remington Wright. All court members must meet, near the display case across from the office, on Tuesday, April 28th, at 11:10 AM for a picture.

PROM TICKETS WILL BE ON SALE ALL THIS WEEK (Monday - Friday) during lunch, outside the commons. Cost is $20 each. Guest passes must be turned in to Mr. Mikulski by Thursday, April 30th.

ALL JUNIORS WHO HAVE BEEN CONSISTENTLY HELPING WITH THE PROM NEED to see Mrs. K. Decker TODAY. You are all expected to put in your time to finish your projects this week. We will be meeting every night at 5:30 PM this week.

NHS: ALL NHS MEMBERS MUST ATTEND THE INDUCTION CEREMONY on Tuesday, April 28th. We need volunteers for cookies, punch and set up see Sammy Duvall or Jenny Jacques.

ANY BOY INTERESTED IN UMPIRING FOR THE 2009 LITTLE LEAGUE SEASON, sign up with Mr. Drew Decker by Wednesday, April 29th.


OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION...

DETENTION Mondays, Tuesdays & Wednesdays after school in Mrs. Whetstone's room (#36) from 2:45 - 3:45 PM. Wednesday morning detention will be in Mrs. Kosto's art room from 7:15 - 7:55 AM.

IF YOU NEED TO LEAVE SCHOOL EARLY... (for appointments, etc.) please bring a note from your parents. Keep the note with you to show your teacher so you can get out of class. Turn the note in to the office when you sign out. THIS IS THE BEST WAY TO GET YOU OUT AND WHERE YOU NEED TO GO ON TIME. Please be sure to check out of class and be ready to go on time! It is your responsibility to watch the clock!

BUS PASS REQUESTS MUST BE SUBMITTED IN WRITING BEFORE SCHOOL Bus pass requests must be written (by a parent), turned in to the office BEFORE SCHOOL and must have the address and name of the bus. Passes requested before school can be picked up DURING LUNCH & AFTER SCHOOL ONLY.

WORK PERMITS If you are under 18 and have a job, you must have a WORK PERMIT! They are in the rack outside the high school office.


COUNSELING OFFICE NEWS...

A REPRESENTATIVE FROM LAKE SUPERIOR STATE UNIVERSITY WILL BE HERE on Tuesday, May 5th, at 8:00 AM. If you plan on attending the university in the fall and have questions regarding programs, scholarships, financial aid, housing etc...sign up in the counseling office. If you are a junior and are interested in the university stop in and sign up.

JUNIORS & SENIORS - THERE IS ONE MORE TEST DATE FOR THE ACT TEST this school year. Tawas High School will host it on Saturday, June 13th. Whether you are registering online or by mail the registration deadline is Friday, May 8th.

SPORTS NEWS...

CONGRATULATIONS TO JESSE SIWEK for achieving All-State Academic Honors in basketball!

THE GIRLS TRACK TEAM FINISHED 2ND AT THE FALCON INVITATIONAL ON FRIDAY (in their division). Taking 1sts for the team were: Emily Short-1600M & 3200M, the 4x100M relay (Shelby Benoit, Richelle Payea, Dana Kolnitys, & Chelsea Wojahn), Benoit 400M dash, Payea 800M run, Kolnitys 200M dash. THE BOYS TRACK TEAM FINISHED 2ND IN THE FALCON INVITATIONAL ON FRIDAY with a plaque. 1st place finishers were Jeff Janis Long Jump & 400, Jeremy Fuller 300 Hurdles 2nd place finishers were Ben Enzenberger High Jump, Eric Wilk 100 Hurdles, Jeff Janis 100 & 200, Eric Wilk 300 Hurdles, 4x 100 team of Revord, Fuller, Siwek, Baker, 4 x 400 team of Arvid, Siwek, Baker, Wilk

THE JV SOFTBALL TEAM TIED FOR 1ST PLACE SATURDAY IN St. LOUIS after a rain out during the championship game. Tawas defeated St. Louis 18-3 in the first game after a three inning mercy rule winning pitcher was Abby Gentges with 5 strike outs. Leading hitters were Gentges with 1 triple and 1 single, and Sammy Smith with 4 singles. Tawas then defeated Carson City 9-0 winning pitcher was Alyssa Gage with 3 strike outs. Leading hitter was Gentges with 2 doubles and 1 single. The championship game was called because of the thunderstorm during the first inning of play vs. Vassar.

THE VARSITY SOFTBALL TEAM LOST TO CLINTON 7-0 SATURDAY in the first game of the Boyne City Tournament, a game that was interrupted by pouring rain twice before the remainder of the game and the tournament were cancelled. Nikki Stein picked up the loss for Tawas allowing three unearned runs on four hits. She struck out one, walked two and hit one Clinton batter. Amber Hunt had the only hit for Tawas (6-2; 2-0).

THE GIRLS VARSITY SOCCER TEAM COMPETED IN A TRAVERSE CITY TOURNAMENT THE WEEKEND The first game of the day was a hard fought game against Traverse City Central which ended in a 1-1 tie and was decided in favor of Traverse City in a penalty kick shootout. Alyssa Gracik scored during regulation play and Gina Gerow scored in the shootout. Goalkeeper Molly Stoll had three saves in the game and three saves in the shootout. In the second game Tawas was defeated 0-3 by Grand Rapids Northpointe Christian. Molly Stoll had six saves in goal. The third game was played against Dewitt and turned out to be the toughest game of the day ending in a 0-6 loss. Molly Stoll had ten saves in goal.
