* * TODAY’S NEWS * *
YEARBOOKS ARE HERE! They will be handed out at lunch and after school ONLY in Room 34! There are extras available for $40 (first come, first served).
Sign up for Segment I Drivers Ed. in the Counseling Office. The cost is $250.00. See Mr. Smith if you are interested. Class begins June 11th.
Sign up for Segment II Drivers Ed. will begin next week, June 2nd, in the Counseling Office. The cost is $50.00. See Mr. Smith if you are interested. Classes will be held June 16th, 17th and 18th.
Spanish Club Members: Stop by Mrs. Grusecki's room by Friday and vote for next year's officers.
Spanish Club: Get your luminaria donations and your decorated bag to Mrs. Grusecki ASAP!

NHS members keep an eye on the NHS board outside the commons for opportunities to get hours. Also check nhs.tawas.net now and throughout the summer.
NHS Members need to submit names for next years’ officers (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and two executive board members). Names must be in by May 23rd. We will be voting on the 30th.
NHS members wanting hours this summer can work on the Relay for Life. See Mrs. Grusecki
Purchase a Relay for Life "foot" for $1.00 from Mrs. Grusecki or Mrs. Decker (Goddess of the Gym); the proceeds will benefit the YAC and Spanish Club Relay for Life teams. See the display case for any questions.
Do you have any prom pictures you would like to share with the yearbook staff? The yearbook staff is looking for more pictures to put in the spring supplement (an addition to the yearbook that contains all spring activities). Please see Mrs. Beckley in room #34 ASAP if you have pictures you would like to see in the yearbook.
* * OTHER IMPORTANT NEWS * *
TUTORING: Tuesday mornings from 7:00 - 8:00 AM and Thursday afternoons from 2:35 - 3:35 PM, there will be an opportunity for students to have extra help with their homework and/or assignments with tutors in the art room. It is an open door and you don’t have to stay the full hour.
IMPORTANT LIBRARY DATES:
· May 28 - The last day library books can be checked out.
· May 29 - The last day library books are due. This is the seniors' last day of school and two last days cannot be programmed into the computer. Non-seniors can keep their books beyond May 29th as long as they are returned by June 11th. Students will be constantly reminded about their books. A fine of $1 will be charged for each book returned after June 11th.
If you’re under 18 and have a job, you must have a WORK PERMIT! They are in the rack outside the high school office.
IF YOU NEED TO LEAVE SCHOOL EARLY (for an appointment, etc.) please bring a note from your parents. Keep the note with you to show your teacher so you can get out of class. Turn the note in to the office when you sign out. THIS IS THE BEST WAY TO GET YOU OUT AND WHERE YOU NEED TO GO ON TIME. Also, if you have a note, please be sure to check out of class and be ready to go on time! It is your responsibility to watch the clock!
BUS PASS REQUESTS MUST BE WRITTEN (by a parent), turned in to the office BEFORE SCHOOL and must have the address and name of the bus. Passes requested before school can be picked up DURING LUNCH & AFTER SCHOOL ONLY.

GRADUATION PRACTICE will be tomorrow (Thursday) at 2:15 PM in the gym. If you will not be at practice due to a sporting event, make sure you notify your walking partner and Mr. Kiblinger!

* * SPORTS NEWS * *
The girls’ varsity soccer team defeated Roscommon last night in the first game of Districts with a score of 4-0. Scoring for the Braves was Alyssa Gracik with three goals and Erica Jackson with one. Asia Finnell had two assists, Sarah Koroly had one and Audrey Thoryk had one. Molly Stoll was in goal for the first 70 minutes and had 12 saves. Carlie Baker was in goal for the final 10 minutes and had 2 saves. The team is now 9-7-2 overall and will advance to District Semi-finals in Roscommon versus Elk Rapids on Thursday at 5:00 PM.
The boys’ track team traveled to Roscommon last night for the Sunrise Meet of Champs. Thomas Domerese placed first in the pole vault with a vault of 12' 6". Also medaling were: Jeff Janis (200m - 2nd), Bill Schmidt (400m - 2nd), and Alex Revord (100m - 3rd). The 400m relay team of Janis, Revord, Schmidt, and Eric Stec also medaled finishing 2nd.
Attention Freshmen Girls: There will be a short meeting at lunch in room 40 for all girls interested in JV and freshmen basketball next year. If you cannot make the meeting, please stop by and see Coach Gorman.
The varsity girls’ basketball meeting has been changed to Friday in Coach Stoll's room during lunch.

Dual enrollment packets are now available in the counseling office!
Seniors: The Counseling Office would like to know where you are headed in the fall…A four-year university? A two-year community college? Trade School, Armed Forces? A final transcript is required by your college or university so stop by and let us know where to send it.
Seniors: Did you take dual enrollment classes this past year? Contact the registrar’s office and have your transcript forwarded to the college or university you will be attending in the fall.

New Scholarship Listing! The Abate Region #16 Motorcycle Club out of Hale is offering a first time $500.00 scholarship to Tawas High School. Stop by the Counseling Office for more information. Application must be mailed in to address given by Saturday, May 31, 2008.
Joseph Barkman Scholarship applications are still available in the Counseling Office. It is offered to high school seniors and past graduates. Two reference letters are needed as well as reasons for applying and a statement about yourself. Deadline date to the Counseling Office is October 31, 2008. (Since many of you will have a very busy fall schedule it would be a good idea to hand this in before you graduate).
